Thirteen Trailblazers caravaned to Globe and parked in the downtown area to celebrate our first hike of 2025. We followed the Stairizona path we had done previously- walking past the old school, up to the dog park with the miner dog tribute, down again to the first of our many decorated staircases. We were disappointed we couldn't take photos in front of the wall of murals near the main street but went up the green stairs and across more bridges and stairs, snapping photos along the way.
When we made our way down to the main street, we took a brief break, walked along the fence that traced Globe's illustrious history. Stopped at the trading post and then went to the underpass with wonderful big murals. We tried to go in the courtyard of the old church, but it was locked. We then crossed the train tracks, went up the big hill to the Globe "G" and made our way down and back, skipping the graveyard in order to save time.
After another quick stop to grab food, 10 of us made our way to Roosevelt in high clearance vehicles, stopping at the gas station/ general store for snacks. We then started on the Apache trail. The road was watered down and in good shape. There was a bit more traffic on the way to Apache lake, but it was well travelled in both directions the whole way. The newly repaired Fish Creek section was easy to drive the only precarious thing was being passed by UTVs scaring up dust and passing by large trucks going the other direction so closely that they had to retract their mirrors.
We made it back to pavement well before sunset and ended our January 1st tired from a nice walk and satiated from the beautiful scenery of the Apache Trail.
