This jeep trip brought us to three interesting locations: an old ruin, an interesting geological feature, and the old Pinal/Superior cemetery. The jeep road leading to the first two locations was short (1.1 miles) and fairly easy by jeep standards, but definitely a 4x4 HC road only. Our three vehicles were a stock Jeep Wrangler, a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a F150 pickup. All three made it with no trouble. We parked where the road intersected the AZ trail, and found the old ruin a short distance away.

The walls are two feet thick, carefully constructed, and mortared together with mud. A pair of holes in the old window frame suggest that there might have been bars and one time. Some internet sources speculate that it was an old jail. (?)

Our next objective was only a few hundred yards away. This feature is a miniature slot canyon, about three feet wide and seven deep. We kept our eyes open for snakes but did not find any.

Two of our more adventurous hikers continued on around a nearby hill and found a spring and metates in a shallow cave. We left the Crack and drove to our last destination, the Pinal cemetery.
