The Cougar Shadow happens 2 times a year at the equinox. It is visible a couple of days before and after the equinox. We got therre early which was good, because the parking area filled up fast. The timing was great, few clouds and plenty of time to set up our camp cairs. You do not want to be to far from your car, because it gets dark fast after the sun sets in the desert.

We did do a short hike before the event, while waiting for the sun to get lower.
